    Good Luck!

  3. spy-bot search and destroy.

  4. The best combination of anti-virus & anti-spyware/adwares would be:

    Anti-virus: AVG
    Anti-spyware: Spybot: search & destroy
Anti-Adware: adAware SE & Windows defender beta.

If you are using XP professional: It includes firewall (check in security in control panel & acitvate it)

Good news: All of the above AV’s are free & recommended by microsoft!

    Webroot Spy Sweeper!

  7. Often one program can not do all of the work, I use two and lavasoft does not always do it. Trendo Micro anti -spyware combined with the lavasoft gets all of them.

  8. I don’t know about for good, but adaware is free and works great,i recomend spybot also, it’s free too. you can find these programs by searching for them by there respectful names, enjoy them. i do.

  9. well lavasoft’s adware ….. is nice but.. SPyware doctor 3.8 is best.. excellent at removing spywares… http://www.download.com sure its free

  10. I have been in the business for 10 years now and the one thing for certain that I can tell you is that there is no true ‘silver bullet’ when it comes to mitigation. Once it is there it is like having a real bad cold, tough to get rid of. Lavasoft is probably one of the better ones if you do use this. Microsofts Beta anti spyware program isn’t bad. But for manual removal, I would go to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and you will see the host file. I would open with notepad and it should only be directing to localhost 127.0.0.1. You could also (only with XP) go to C:\documents and dettings\PROFILENAME\local settings\temp and clear that out. (if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, then seek help of an IT professional to do this.)

  11. I hate to break it to all the wonderful people out there trying to help because they love their "spybot search and destroy"…BUT…spyboy search and destroy is a spyware program in itself. Now don’t get me wrong, it will get rid of other spyware programs because hey, those are their competition we’re talking about. So as long as you don’t mind sharing all you’re personal information as well as everything you type with people that have no real purpose in life, go right ahead and use spybot. But the facts are the facts…ad-aware se personal is the best there is for free. If you’re still infected after that, then most likely you need a better ANTIVIRUS program, not spyware. I know the "infection" you’re speaking of, because my fiance did the same thing…it took some effort to remove it because it inbeds itself way the heck down in your computer’s registry. My suggestion is to scan your computer for viruses with norton or mcafee or sophos and find out the name of the "infection". Then goto symantec.com and search for the removal tools/directions and follow those.

  12. LINUX,FreeBSD,Debian, are about a thousand kernals,,,,,
Most all viri and or malicious code is written in and intended to run on Windows OS. (any and all versions)
I have had very good results from the AVG, Grissoft line running Windows 2k and Windows XP.
Still get slammed every day with that junk, so I dual boot now, windows to go online, and because everything digital is temporary, a simple reformat erases all traces of the garbage that is collected or sent to this box.
The Linux Kernal running in no way interacts with the Windows OS, and most all Linux Work is done offline.
Long as you are on the Internet on a Windows OS, viri and malicious code is a reality that you choose to put up with.

  13. I fix computers for other people, and I use and recommend both AD-Aware and Spybot, in conjunction with some reputable AV software.

If the customer does not have McAfee or Norton, I usually install Ewido for one time cleaning (It’s only free for 15 days) and leave them with Bitdefender or AVG.

  14. Try FireFox.
