How can I keep my machine from getting new spyware?

I update Norton and Adaware a couple times a week, so removal isn’t a problem. But how do I prevent future infections? Is there any way to prevent these malicious cookies?

    Two steps.
    1. Use Firefox and install the noscript extension.
It’s a more secure browser and noscript keeps websites from executing code that could be used in potential exploits.
    2. Modify your hosts file. It basically prevents your computer from contacting the servers that supply things like ads and spyware. See http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm for directions and a great hosts file. This is particularly good for tracking cookies.

don’t download from suspicious sites, but otherwise there’s nothing you can do.

  3. Not all malicious called cookies are malicious. Best way to avoid it is by setting the security on your browser to not accept cookies. Or stop surfing…:-)

raise your security setting on your cookies.

  5. There are certain firewalls that you can put up on your computer, but they are often very restrictive on your internet usage. Call in the geek squad! lol

I have Spyware Blaster from Javacool Software. Right now it’s protecting me from 6294 items for both Internet Explorer, Restricted sites, and it also cover Mozilla/Firefox.

hi you could scan every once a week.dont download suspecios downloads.

  8. Get Yahoo! toolbar at http://toolbar.yahoo.com/ and MS anti spy at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx (They’re free)
If you use IE, you can delete cookies manually ("Tools"->"Internet Options" -> "Delete Cookies")
To avoid infection you must install a third party firewall(like "Zone Alarm", it also has built in anti spy software) and DO NOT allow any web site that you don’t know very well installs thing in your computer
