How can I stop spyware from getting on my computer at all?
I have CA Security Center and my spyware software works fine, but how do I get spyware from popping up at all? Is there a way to set my software so it scans and gets rid of spyware on a regular basis without my telling it to?
There isn’t a way to completely stop it, some spyware will piggy back onto your computer every time you use the internet. There should be a section on your security center for an automatic scan, you decide when you want it to scan, and when you log onto your computer it will automatically start to scan.

Go to download.com and download "Spybot" and "Adaware".
They are free to download.
Run both separately and your computer will be spyware free.

But in all seriousness, the CA Security Center should be blocking spyware from coming in, assuming it is updated with the latest definitions. Another common app I use is called SpyBot Search & Destroy. Again, as long as it is up to date and you immunize (prevent) regularly, it does a good job of keeping the bad stuff out, as well as getting rid of the spyware that made it in to your system.
As with any spyware and anti-virus program, the main thing is to keep the software updated and scan regularly.
Don’t get on the internet. At all. Ever. That’s the only sure way to stop spyware. And depending on what antispyware you are using, you can set most of them to scan either on command or at preset times. You just need to be sure the computer is on and not being used at that particular time.

How To Have A Clean Computer.
Step 1. Download Firefox as your browser and Adblock Plus Firefox Add-on.
Step 2. Update your virus definitions and scan, if no anti-virus AVG Free will do the job.
Step 3. Remove all adware/spyware, download Ad-Aware 2007 Free & SUPERAntispyware and run one at a time, remove all threats.
Step 4. Remove cookies, history etc download CCleaner run and clean.
Step 5. Remove any temp files left over, start\run\%temp% some may not remove because still in use.
Step 6. Use CCleaner to stop start up items not needed, google the start ups and you will know what to stop.
Step 7. If you are currently using Windows firewall please download PC Tools Firewall Plus, as it is a two way protection, light on system resources and will protect your computer from being accessed by hackers.
Step 8. Defragment with Auslogic Disk Defrag which will take about 5-10mins compared to Windows hours.
You will now have a secure, clean, fast computer.
I would recomend you do this on fortnightly bases or when you feel necessary.
