How to get rid of spyware?
I have a major problem with my PC right now. I can not for the life of me get rid of spyware on my PC. I have Norton, I have run Registry Mechanic and Adware removal and still cant seem to rid my PC of it. Also a lot of time at start up Norton notifies me that it defected and deleted a virus.
Thanks for any help.

Hi there,
I’m shocked that no-one has recommended Prevx1 yet?! This program has been reported as having the strongest protection and removal capabilities of all security software on the market today – so this should be the first program you try.

I would also recommend that people contemplate moving away from Spybot and Adaware. These programmes used to be good a couple of years ago, but are now protecting their users from less than 20% of the threats out there.
It’s worth getting an expert to check your computer out at:

Register, go to the Hijack This Forum, read the instructions on how to post a log, give a brief description of your problem (like you’ve just typed) and post your log there. The guys in there are fantastic and trustworthy and will guide you through in getting rid of anything nasty from your computer. Good luck!
try using spybot. You can download it for free.
Nortons has a crappy rep for removing spyware. Usually it tells you, but doen’t remove it because it’s an antiVIRUS. Use Adaware or Spybot (both free) from cnet.com
http://www.cnet.com
Alos use the online scan at kaspersky to verify that nortons is doing a good job (I love this anitivirus, and use the full version all the time)

I good program to get is Webroot’s Spy Sweeper…it’s a very powerful spyware remover and also removes a lot of other parasitic files that could potentially harm you computer.
Many times you cannot remove spyware from a computer because the program is already running and thus will not be deleted. What you need to do is to go to the Command Prompt and type in "msconfig". A screen will pop up in which you will click on the Startup Tab. Click on "disable all" and hit "apply" and then "okay". It will ask if you want to restart your computer in which you say yes. Upon restart run Norton again and your spyware program and it should remove a lot more files.
First get rid of nortan it is a resource hog. If you want a better virus scanner get AVG its free. Next I would restart my computer and enter Safe Mode by hitting the f8 key reapetly at the bootup of your system. Then chose Safe Mode With Networking Support. This will take you into Safe Mode with support for the Internet. Then go download Spybot Search and Destroy, and Defender from microsoft. These two will need to be updated so do that before you scan. Remember that some scanners pick up on whtat others missed. So try them both.

Download this trial, click scan, then full system scan. It should take around 7 – 15 min, but hunts down all the spyware and viruses on your computer. The trial doesnt expire, but the full version keeps out the spyware alot better.
Try downloading Spybot, its a free download and one of the best out there. Here is the link http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
Even big corporations use that program on their networks. There is a pay version also but the free one works well.

Use the links below. Ounce you click on the sites, they will give you a detailed description of the spyware removal programs that you can download to your computer. Just to let you know, I have used all three of these programs, and they all work fine together in getting rid of spyware.
I used to have the same problem. Go to Yahoo tool bar and search "Trend Microsoft House Call" They have a free virus scan that works very good. I used it all the time when i had nortons on my computer because House Call removes most any virus or spyware program and like i said its free
Free and reliable spyware removers are:
Spybot Search and Destroy – get it at http://www.safer-networking.org...
Adaware – get it at http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware...
Microsoft Windows Defender at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...
Once you download/install the programs, be sure to UPDATE! This ensurees that you have the very latest protection, not just the latest as of the day it was archived!
Also, for best results, pick up all three programs, or at least two of them – Don’t rely on just one to find everything. Some are better than others at detecting specific spyware types.
Set your programs to automatic update, or remember to update them regularly.
