I'm looking for malware removal instructions to kill the worm.win32.netsky spyware I got off a web page.?

This makes your desktop have a red image saying "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER", and it keeps popping up false warnings saying that "windows has detected an internet attack" while trying to make you purchase and download "THEIR" software because it’s the ONLY way to remove THIS PARTICULAR virus. If you download it, it removes the red screen but installs more ad downloading software in the background. If you do a 3 finger salute (hold the Ctrl + Alt keys down and then click once on the Delete key) and then click the Performance tab you’ll see frequent instances of 100% CPU usage. Last time I got this I had to rip windows out after 3 days of frustration trying to remove it. It just keeps changing it’s name and re-installing itself when you re-boot.

Another knowledgeable respondent said you might have Smitfraud, but your symptoms sound a lot like the new variants of Vundo. Vundo is a lot harder to remove than old smitty.

Symantec has a specialized netsky removal tool

If by chance the Symnatec tool doesn’t work, then McAfee says that their Avert Stinger will remove netsky.

  6. You do not have a real worm.win32.netsky infection. That warning is fake. It is a scam to attempt to get you to purchase a rogue malware removal product. Any balloon alerts about "Your computer is infected" or "System Alert", is always false, phony and fradulant. As are any desktop "warnings" The actual trojan that has caused your problem is no doubt one of the hundreds (now in the thousands)of varients of what is commonly called "Zlob".

However your computer is indeed infected. This infection is likely Smitfraud and it is what is giving you the phony scam virus warnings( and often redirect you to a site selling a bogus anti virus product), trying to sell you junk such as Pest Capture, Pest Trap, Virus Burst, Spyware Quake,Virus Heal and other non working anti virus apps.

Information and procedure sand a free removal tool for the removal of Smitfraud are here:

    http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php

Most "All-Purpose" malware apps such as AVG, Norton, Spybot etc unforturnatly can not remove this vile pest called Smitfraud.

    Good luck
