My parents just got a brand new monitor & CPU 2 weeks ago as a combination birthday & Mothers’ Day gift for my mother from a cousin of mine who lives in California,and,it was installed in our home office by my nephew.

It’s great except for the fact that it has no anti-virus program in or with it.

My mother is glad that I’m helping her look for the right & the cheapest,even free anti-virus programs.I started to help her this morning when she was on her computer,and,I told her that I would go on Yahoo!Answers to ask for recommendations.

My parents new monitor & CPU is from the Dell Corp. and it has the Microsoft Windows Vista XP Home edition program with a built in firewall,but,once again,no anti-virus protection.

I wish to install Norton Anti-Virus. I would like to know whether I should remove any one of the following programs other than the Rogers Yahoo Online protection which I have now on my computer. Running two Anti-Virus programs may cause damage to my computer, hence this question.

The programs I now have are as follows:

1. Microsoft Windows Defender
2. Spybot-Search & Destroy
3. Rogers Yahoo Self Healing Software
4. Rogers Yahoo Online protection ( Anti Spy, Anti-Virus, Pop up Blocker & Mail protection0

i heard somewhere that if you keep up to date with updates from microsoft or whatever you have, then you dont need to have a spyware program. is that a smart thing to do? to me it doesnt but i dont really know anything about it. i just dont want to get a virus, but im sick of dealing with trials of spyware and i extremely dislike macefee and nortons.. any suggetstions?? my trial to one-care expires in a few days. would it be a good idea to just let whatever happen happen after it expires?

Is it true that Linux users do not have to worry so much about viruses and that they do not need an anti-virus program running in the back ground all of the time unlike the people using Microsoft?
I have ClamAV installed and I have used BitDefender being it is free for Linux.

i know there is a virus in my computer because its glitching , it happened when i downloaded a file that was completely fake i realized after i "installed" it, i’ve tried MANY anti-virus programs to try and detect it but they all come up empty, i’ve used programs like:
Microsoft Windows Live One Care,
AVG Anti-virus/Spy,
Verizon Yahoo Anti-virus protection, and one more that i dont remember, i also used them independently, not at the same time so they wouldn’t glitch too, but it still doesnt work, i seriously need a lift.

My anti-virus/spyware is going to expire tomorrow. Currently, I on a free trial from Microsoft OneCare. Have anyone else use oneCare? How is it? Would you suggesst me to purchase it or try another type of protection?

    Hi,
    I had a virus on my computer and had to run the restoration CD. I wiped out my virus protection and my Microsoft Word. I do not have the disks for these products anymore. Can someone please let me know where I can find a free version of MW and tell me which anti virus / anti spyware programs I need to keep my computer safe? I heard that AntiVir was good… any other suggestions welcome!

    I have a network at work. 2 computers are shared via the Linksys. Both of the computers are wireless. The Microsoft Office 2007 software has been installed on both. I would like to know what is a good virus protection/spyware program i should purchase/try. Please help. Are the free ones just as good as the one i have to purchase? what should i do??
