I need a secure site that I can download some stuff to remove viruses. I don’t want to have to take everything off my laptop to remove the virus. I recently got the "backdoor trojan" virus from something that downloaded. As soon as I found out it was on here, I got a "security toolbar 7.1" and it won’t go away. I have no idea why it’s there and I’m afraid to download anything in fear that it may be another virus in hiding. So any suggestions or sites that might help remove the virus would be good. I have the Norton Internet Virus protection, but it won’t remove the trojan virus. oh and I keep getting these pop ups even when I’m not online saying I have more spyware viruses and if you click on them a window pops up with a site to download a remover. I know from the last time I had a virus that I shouldn’t do that. So I have no idea what to do now.

My computer is vulnerable, and I get notifications of malicious spyware and adware installed. Including notifications for trojans. I also receive malicious pop-ups. How do I remove trojans, adware/spyware and viruses for no charge?

I have never had a problem with spyware before, and I have had this laptop for over a year. I have Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, which I run scans through at least once a month. I have a pop-up client through Yahoo and Symantec which has never failed me until recently.

The past few weeks I have been getting full-window-sized pop-ups, often times after I have been using Yahoo search. The pages generally pertain to what my searches had been about, but they are spam pages. I also get warnings from the Symantec for Trojan viruses and another virus called InfoStealer. Symantec can usually quarantine them.

I do not want to have to wipe my hard drive clean – I have over 5000 songs on my computer, multiple digital family photo albums, and all of my classwork for school.

Please help!

I’ve checked through some old answers and have tried everything to no avail to get rid of System Security version 4.52.

I tried to access my control panel with add/remove programs, selected the system security icon and tried to remove it, and it indicated that the program was already removed. Yet when I restarted, the pop ups were still there (as well as the icon on the toolbar). I could only access the control panel in safe mode, but I can’t seem to run the antivirus programs in safe mode.

I’ve downloaded free copies of several versions of anti-malware software, but SS will disable them. I am on the verge of throwing my computer out the window. I am not tech-saavy enough to deal with this!

I called the customer support # for spyware doctor and was told that their program would remove the virus (not the free dowloadable copy which the damn program keeps disabling before it would run).

When I called the store that carries spyware doctor (which I will not name because their sales associate really pissed me off- but it rhymes with "rest guy"), I was told they can’t guarantee the program WILL work, and there are no refunds – but their geek squad can fix it for 0. Seriously?

So, does anyone know how to disable this stupid thing? As I’ve said, I’ve followed several links, tried several downloads – to no avail. If I can’t disable it myself, does anyone know of an antivirus program that can (and will) remove it? I can’t afford to waste money on software if it doesn’t work, and I certainly can’t afford to pay someone 0 to fix it.

So – any advice on how to disable and remove System Security 4.52?

Can anyone recommend an antivirus program that will?

Please respond ASAP – it won’t even let me open Microsoft Word, and I need to access files for class!!!! Thanks in advance!

I will be using firefox and IE pop-ups will NOT go away. it has bogged down my computer ridiculously slow. I have Spyware Doctor, but it has not done an efficient job.

Any recommendations on fixing this? Also, does anyone know, say, if I were to take it to Best Buy that they could do an efficient job fixing it?

There is a red circle with an "X" in it on my taskbar. My screen resolution drops (making everything bigger) and a Fatal Error pops up informing me that I need to upgrade my Media Codecs for Media Player (obviously virus). I’ve done my homework on Zlob Tojans G and Media Codec Viruses but still can’t find a way to completely remove it. I’ve used Safe Mode and scanned with: Spybot Seek and Destroy, Ad-Aware, FixIEDef, NOD32 and SmitfraudFix… I can’t bring up Task Manager by pushing CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHFT+ESC or by the "Run" function in the start menu…. There aren’t any pop-ups yet(Thank god) or redirections online. Just media errors and elephantitis of screen.
*Like I said I’ve done a little bit of homework on what I’m dealing with so please refrain from explaining to me what a Trojan virus "is", believe me I know.*
Any help would be much appreciated. I also don’t want any "spyware removal advertisers" replying wasting my time…I’m not shelling out any dough for something that should be free. Thank You! :)
Thanks Timbuk4! …Malwarebytes was awesome.. it cleared what others couldn’t… Now I’ve just got a problem with my sound (There is none.) … Is that common afterwards.. how can I restore it?

Don’t tell me it is Norton because I have Norton 2007 and my computer is jacked up. I run a full system scan and it doesn’t find the trojan that is causeing pop-ups and other crappy programs to self-install on my computer. I heard F-scan or something like that was the best.
