Vista Antivirus 2010 malware removal?
Hey, so my computer seemed to have picked up this annoying little bug.
I tried downloading and installing malwarebytes, it let me download it but won’t let me run setup in order to install it (anytime I run it, the virus starts running as av.exe in processes and the setup never comes). It won’t let me run Spybot S&D either. It let’s me run HijackThis, but it won’t let me run HJT as administrator and therefore I cannot get a log that I can post. It will not let me run Mozilla Firefox, or Internet Explorer from clicking the icons. In order to get on the internet, I need to go to Run -> www.google.ca.
So, any suggestions on how I can get rid of this? I have tried all of the "manual self-help remove it by doing this" sites, but I cannot find any of the files in the registry or on my computer.
Whodaman – How do I do that?
Other dude – I have norton.
joel j – none of those values are in the registry, and I can’t find any of those files
IS there anyone who doesn’t just copy and paste what they google? I already stated that I tried those sites.
It will not let me do a system restore either
For fucks sake do I have to reformat the whole damn drive
Managed to run System Restore, but it said "An unspecified error occured and system was not able to restore" and then like 10000 copies of av.exe started running.

You are gonna need to import in a install file (preferrably avast or something reputable) and do a install like that.
If it blocks it (aka a very crafty virus), you are gonna have to wipe your drive clean and start fresh.
Hi
Sorry I cant help but i can say i have picked up the same thing from an IPad site. As far as i can tell its a new variant of this that non of the manual fixes seem to help.
I have so far used Spybot, spyhunter and Spyware doctor with the new definitions running an extremely slow scan at the moment. If i find a solution i will post if for you. Can you do the same.
Mike
These rogues are very nasty and can difficult to remove. Alot of users who contract these end up reformatting and installing windows from scratch. The key to this is getting to regedit and removing the entries for the rogue which will permit you to then delete the files. Try this as it has worked for me and should also work for you. Go to run and type regedit. Click on edit > find. Using find locate the following keys and delete. After all the keys listed below have been removed, use search with advanced features (hidden files and folders checked) to locate the files listed.
Registry entries to be deleted:
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vista Antivirus 2010
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Vista Antivirus 2010
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Vista Antivirus 2010
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Vista Antivirus 2010
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Vista Antivirus 2010
Files to be deleted:
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010
* %CommonStartMenu%\Programs\Vista Antivirus 2010
* C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings\Vista Antivirus 2010
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\reg.html
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\av2010.exe
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\support.png
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\blacklist.cga
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\AV2010Install.exe
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\AntivirusPro2010.exe
* %ProgramFiles%\Vista Antivirus 2010\Vista Antivirus 2010.exe
* %CommonStartMenu%\Programs\Vista Antivirus 2010\Vista Antivirus 2010.lnk
* %CommonStartMenu%\Programs\Vista Antivirus 2010\Uninstall Vista Antivirus 2010.lnk
