AVG, I would rate it at a 10. I’ve always used it on all my computers and have had no problems.

CCleaner is another good one, It’s not so much for spyware but it helps make your computer faster. 8 / 10
Avast! is a great spyware remover. If you have it run before boot up, it can delete files that no other software can. 9 / 10.

I remember the days when Spybot S&D & Lavasoft’s Adaware used to be the top options for free spyware protection. Times have changed though, and now SuperAntiSpyware & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware are the top two free-antispyware. The only downside is the real-time monitor is not included in the free versions.
If you want paid Anti-Spyware software, the two I’ve read getting good reviews are Webroot’s Spysweeper and PCTools Spyware Doctor.

Comodo’s free anti-malware is what works for me.
Use Ad-aware plus Spybot. Use that combination all the time and it’s very good. Both are free. Be sure to download the updated definitions.
I call the combination a 10. Usually finds a lot of stuff. If the computer is totally jacked up with scumware then you’ll need to back up the important data and then wipe and reinstall O/S.
