  1. The strongest free protection for your computer is:
Comodo Pro (firewall) and AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0

    More user friendly option:
ZoneAlarm (firewall) simpler to use and requires less setting up then Comodo Pro

    All available from download.com

Would also recommend that you use a safer browser like Firefox, and download additional anti-spyware software my favourite is Ad-aware 2008.

I recently removed my McAfee firewall and installed Comodo Pro, its the best firewall I’ve ever used and comes top in leaktests (see below) if after installing Comodo you get too many warnings turn the defence + setting to clean computer.

(Don’t use AntiVir, some people recommended Avira AntiVir to me so I removed AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0 and installed AntiVir but I could not get it to update, the forums are full of people having the same problem)

  2. Try AVG from grisoft…I find it very good

  3. i use NOD32. for me it is one of the best anti virus software available. it will update automatically daily. you can download it by torrent. its free…

  4. http://free.grisoft.com/ AVG is the best free.
    if going paid Blackice.

  5. I hope you are talking about Anti-virus.. lol… Well, talking about free, then I think AVG from Girsoft is FREEWARE!

  6. Avast is the best. Try googling for it and you will find your answer

  12. yeah… I would go with AVG.

  13. I spent a number of years in the computer industry and people always ask this question. My answer is always the same – you get what you pay for. My biggest gripe with freeware is that you don’t know who’s writting the software – it could very well be a hacker.

Updates are inconsistent and a lot of them have bugs which cause other problems. My advise is quit being a cheapskate and BUY something. I personally have used Computer Associates Internet Security for about 5 years, and I’ve NEVER had a problem. For me it’s well worth the $60 bucks I spend on it. That $60 bucks covers 3 computers legally, and has a consistently high rating for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall. It also comes with back up software, phishing filter, and even a child/web site blocker.

  14. I use Avira AntiVir Personal and I think it is the best and it has the highest rating in detections compared to AVG and Avast. My brother uses AVG and still does. I have no idea why, though. His computer crashed for days because it caught a virus AVG couldn’t find called TR/Vundo.gen that finally Avira could take off. You can go into the configurations and set it to update automatically as soon as updates are available, unlike AVG that updates at a specific time everyday. Sometimes it’ll update twice or more a day automatically. It’ll keep you better protected.

  15. Let me be blunt! I like to use free stuff.. See AVG is good.. but MicroSoft Security Essentials is they GOOD STUFF! I suggest using it! It is Free and worth it!
